Individual Worship

Earlier this week while enjoying my first cup of coffee, as usual, I was listening to Dr. Erwin Lutzer. He has a 15 min. study every weekday morning and this series was about worship. He talked about corporate “worthship” and how important a place the Temple worship played in the lives of the children of Israel. We know from reading Acts and the Epistles that it was also of vital importance in the life of the early church and that they were even instructed how to conduct themselves as they bonded together for fellowship and to worship.

Dr. Lutzer also emphasized the importance of everyday “worthship” and the necessity it is for believers to worship as we go about our daily duties. I knew I had some outside work to do that morning, so as he concluded his teaching I asked God to give me a special verse of Scripture on which I could meditate as I did my chores. I thought about Scripture and almost as soon as I asked, one of the most familiar verses in all the Bible came to my mind…John 3:16. At first I thought another verse would “stretch my mind” more, but I decided to think about and quote it. I could not get past the first part of the verse; “For God so loved the world that He gave.” I could not get any farther with my quoting before my eyes started to water a bit. Just think! God so loved that He gave! And what did He give? He gave His only Son!

So, as I did my work, John 3:16 gave me a lot to think about as I privately worshipped. Then I remembered A.W. Tozer saying that he believed the 25 words in John 3:16 were the most important words ever written; all the books ever written throughout all history could not compare to the inspired words of John 3:16.

Now as I finish writing and get ready to go about my “chores” today I know that I will again be meditating on “For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son that “whosoever”; and that “whosoever” includes me. God gave His Son so that I could have everlasting life. That is worth a few more hours of thought today.
